History of Tennis Bracelets
When I look at tennis bracelets it clearly shows that they are elegant, and have a timeless design, but how did they get dubbed the ‘Tennis Bracelet’?
The term ‘tennis bracelet’ was started during an incident at the 1987 U.S. Open involving top-ranked tennis player Chris Evert.
During that match, Evert’s diamond bracelet broke and fell off her wrist. She famously requested that the match should be paused while she searched for her bracelet. It was live on television and everybody was surprised. Commentators dubbed the missing piece her "tennis bracelet," and so it was born. It became a well-known name and popular among tennis lovers.
The Rise in Popularity
Following Chris Evert’s 1987 incident, the demand for similar diamond bracelets skyrocketed. This lead to the jewelry industry adopting the term tennis bracelet. These bracelets symbolize a blend of elegance and an active lifestyle. As I write this people wear them as a statement, just during the day. Or for special occasions only, cause they aren’t cheap of course.
They became a fashion statement, showcasing that the owner “did well” in life.
Today, celebrities and fashion enthusiasts love them, they admire them for their timeless looks, and of course for their statement. This evolution highlights the bracelet's journey from a practical sports accessory to a luxurious and iconic piece of jewelry.
Evolution in Design
Initially, tennis bracelets featured a simple string of round-cut diamonds. Today’s designs are much more diverse. Using different gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, and rubies, as well as new & modern patterns and settings.
Modern diamond tennis bracelets encompass different diamond shapes like princess, oval, and marquise cuts. They now cater to a wide range of tastes.
This evolution of tennis bracelets has broadened their appeal beyond tennis players to fashion enthusiasts and collectors. The flexible use and timeless design of these bracelets make them a must-have in luxury jewelry.

Recently the diamond market is not going as strong as before, my brother in law is diamond cutter from Antwerp, Belgium, and he sees that the expensive diamond marketing is going through tough times. Even at bigger manufacturers like LVMH or Cartier.
There are alternatives though, like moissanite & cubic zirconia, They are affordable options with comparable sparkle. The settings can also feature prongs, bezels, or channels, each affecting the bracelet's style and security.
Additionally, some designs incorporate mixed metals for a unique look. The quality of the clasp is crucial for durability, ensuring the bracelet remains secure during wear.
